The York Suburban Relays

This unique Track and Field Meet is the cornerstone fundraising event of the York Suburban All-Sports Booster Club. The York Suburban Relays is rich in tradition and has been part of the YSHS athletic scene for almost half a century. Staging this event is truly a team effort. Without the help of our many Booster Club supporters and volunteers--especially our track and field coaches, athletic department staff, and high school administration, this event simply could not happen.

Here's a brief background history of the Suburban Relays:

Mr. Herb Schmidt is the mastermind behind the Suburban Relays, having created this event in 1960 on a cinder track with 6 participating schools. In 1964, field events were added and the Relays have continued to grow, both in the number of events and the number of participating schools. Mr. Schmidt's experience in Track & Field is legendary and we are grateful for his leadership and dedication. He continues today as part of the Games Committee, awards presenter, and meet referee. Another interesting note is that all of the unique traveling team trophies were hand-made and are treasured today by the winning teams, just as they have been for more than 40 years.

For more information on the YS Relays and how to volunteer for this extraordinary event, please contact any member of the York Suburban All-Sports Booster Club or a member of the athletic department staff at the high school. You'll be happy you did!
